Google Expands Crypto Efforts, Eyes Seamless Bitcoin Integration

The rise of Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) has opened new doors for tech giants to enter the cryptocurrency space. Google is now accelerating its efforts to make Bitcoin and digital assets more accessible, focusing on solutions that bridge the gap between traditional finance and Web3.

Google’s Crypto Push

At the Bitcoin Tech Carnival in Hong Kong on Feb. 18, Kyle Song, a Web3 specialist at Google, revealed that the company is collaborating with Bitcoin developers to simplify access to digital assets for Web2 users.

One key area of focus is Bitcoin wallets. Google aims to streamline wallet usage, making it as seamless as traditional payment systems. Song suggested that, in the future, users may be able to log into Bitcoin wallets using their Google accounts and transact with the ease of conventional financial services.

Additionally, the company is researching Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKP) to enhance security and improve trust between on-chain and off-chain systems.

Google’s Crypto Journey Since 2018

Google’s involvement in blockchain and cryptocurrency dates back to 2018, when it began experimenting with decentralized technologies:

2018 – Integrated blockchain tools into Google Cloud, enabling smart contracts and decentralized data storage.
2020 – Partnered with Chainlink to integrate oracles into its services and added blockchain data support to BigQuery.
2022 – Expanded its Web3 division, hiring blockchain specialists and investing in crypto startups.
2023 – Announced a partnership with Coinbase, allowing cloud service payments in cryptocurrency.
