According to the agriculture department, the infected birds were not part of the zoo’s collection. Officials emphasized that the likelihood of human infection remains low. No reopening date has been announced.

Brazil, the top global exporter of chicken meat, responded to the outbreak by suspending poultry exports to 24 countries, including its largest buyer, China.

The World Health Organization warns that while bird flu can cause severe illness with a high fatality rate in humans, transmission between people is rare. Reported human cases have mostly involved individuals with direct contact with infected animals or contaminated environments.
